Do you have a legal problem but can`t afford to hire a lawyer? There are many free or low-cost legal advice options available to El Dorado County residents. The main avenues are legal aid programs such as Colorado Legal Services, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal assistance to low-income residents and seniors, or through the El Paso State Bar Association. There may be income limits that apply to you to qualify for free or low-cost assistance. Contact the relevant agency for more information. Below is a list of several organizations available to you. Colorado Legal Services is a non-profit organization that has been supporting low-income and seniors in the state of Colorado for more than 85 years. Colorado Legal Services` mission is to provide meaningful access to high-quality civil justice services to as many low-income people and members of vulnerable Colorado populations as possible in order to obtain justice. Good to know: Volunteer lawyers are available to answer basic legal questions free of charge over the phone. Calls are strictly confidential.

Call to find specific dates and times. The Colorado Legal Services Advocates Forum supports lawyers who assist low-income individuals in civil law matters. Free membership to the Lawyers` Forum is available to civil lawyers, pro bono lawyers, law students, lecturers and other lawyers. Colorado Farmworkers Project provides advocacy and legal representation to agricultural workers. Good to know: This is a national legal service that helps abused women and survivors who are disabled or abused by caregivers. Appeal to admission procedures. Good to know: This is a legal intermediary service run by the State Bar Association. It is not a free legal aid program. They support people whose income is too high to qualify for free legal services, but too low to pay the standard lawyer rate. You will need to complete an application to see if you qualify.

Good to know: This is a free, confidential walk-in legal clinic run by volunteer lawyers. Lawyers will answer legal questions from the public at this monthly event. The clinic takes place in the Citadel Mall, next to the upper food court near customer services. Good to know: This service takes place at the courthouse for self-represented litigants. Litigation coordinators answer questions, direct people to available forms and inform them about various court cases. They do not provide legal advice, act as lawyers, or assist in filling out forms for clients. Good to know: This is a free national legal service for victims of domestic violence. They offer legal aid clinics one evening a week. Lawyers do not provide legal representation. Good to know: This service guides clients through the injunction process and accompanies them in court if they opt for an injunction or permanent injunction against an abusive partner.

Colorado ID Project For citizens looking for ID and other documents. Areas of law: discrimination, elections and voting, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, immigration rights, LGBT rights, privacy, police practices, prisons and prison conditions, and other issues of fair treatment by government. Area of Law: Criminal, Consumer, Family and Estate Good to know: CLS does not offer assistance with traffic or crime. This office serves residents of the following counties: El Paso, Lincoln, Teller; Chaffee, Custer, Fremont and Park. They also offer several clinics throughout the month, including divorce, guardianship and conservatory, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Areas of Law: Family Law, Family Violence, Divorce, Custody, Guardianship, Good to Know: This is a free divorce workshop for those who qualify based on income. They must be recorded and pre-verified. All screenings take place in person. No phone calls.
