We believe that everyone should have access to legal education. Our courses are among the cheapest in the industry and payment options are available. To further reduce costs, we allow you to transfer and apply 3 credits from an educational experience prior to your certificate. For more than 40 years, our courses have been taught by practicing lawyers and regularly updated to keep up with current industry trends. Courses marked with an asterisk are open to all students of the certificate, regardless of their major. Other courses have limitations based on the main subject and/or prerequisites. The Certificate in Legal Studies is designed to provide you with content skills to enhance your analytical and logical thinking, critical reading and thinking, as well as writing and research skills. This certificate also encourages you to become familiar with the law in order to gain first-hand experience in the legal field and strengthen your desire for a legal career. The certificate offers academic courses to help you develop the skills recommended by the ABA and combines your academic courses with experiential learning opportunities that can count towards your main, minor or elective points. Fifteen hours of approved classes are required to complete the certificate.
Courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C (2.00), and no more than three hours may be transfer credits. Mandatory courses can be found in the UGA newsletter. According to the American Bar Association (ABA), you don`t need to have a specific major to be admitted to law school. However, you should gain important skills, values, knowledge, and experience to effectively prepare for law school and a legal career. The competencies recommended by the ABA should include the following: The Graduate Certificate in Law is designed for those who have already earned a Bachelor of Laws or other field and wish to gain advanced legal knowledge and develop their research skills. We work with more than 150 accredited colleges and universities across the country to issue our certificates. LAW 310: Persuasive Writing in Law (3 credits) This intensive writing seminar focuses on logical and concise writing in a variety of legal and non-legal contexts. Students will review and revise all scriptures, including legal analysis, advocacy letters, client correspondence, and contracts. Accompanying legal readings can include laws, factual scenarios, and current events. Prerequisites: RECHT 201 The Certificate in Legal Studies is open to all majors of the university. Students who wish to obtain the Certificate in Legal Studies must complete 15 semester hours. The courses that count towards the certificate are expected to be taken in the fall of 2020 and beyond. LAW 201: General Law (3 credits) This course examines the jurisdiction of federal and state courts and the interaction of courts, legislative and executive powers in the development of legal principles.
The fundamental elements of civil proceedings, treaties, property, criminal acts, criminal offences and family relations are examined and supplemented by a case analysis.
