GC: Does your legal team play a big enough role in advocacy? Jim Shaughnessy will join the company this month as Chief Legal Officer, bringing more than 20 years of public policy and legal experience to representing technology companies. Shaughnessy said legal executives should always have close collaboration with the company`s board of directors as one of their top priorities, and this is even more important in changes in management that often trigger great board involvement. This was the case with DocuSign during his short tenure. RD: Yes. My mandate was to build a world-class legal team and we have 28 lawyers and paralegals around the world, six of them in Europe. I also lead the compliance team and the security team, because I think if you look at a company right now, the most important risk profile is primarily cyber. It`s really important to have a lawyer who leads this group and who really understands and is able to translate your cyber risk to the board so that they really understand what the exposure is and how we mitigate it. We have created a document called „E-Signature Legality Guide“ that follows the top 64 countries that conduct digital transactions and sets the laws in all of those countries.

We send that to the lawyers and it makes them realize pretty quickly that this is a valid signature that will be enforced in court. Jim Shaughnessy joins DocuSign as Chief Legal Officer (CLO). „It`s at a stage in a company`s growth and development that I find really exciting and offers a tremendous opportunity for a general counsel to make a significant impact,“ Shaughnessy told Legal Dive. With more than 25 years of experience leading technology and product teams in startups and global organizations, Kamal oversees the development and implementation of DocuSign`s technology roadmap. Cameron has been a technology pioneer for over 25 years and is at the forefront of innovation, playing a key role in many digital tools and services that are now established on the internet, including digital communications, online advertising, and massive service platforms collectively known as the „cloud.“ Prior to joining DocuSign in 2021, Cameron was Chief Strategist and Chief Brand Officer at website giant GoDaddy and Chief Marketing Officer of legal technology firm LegalShield.
